Today, after just two years, thanks to an\u00a0important order, the turnover of the Cooperative\u00a0amounts to almost 800 thousand euros per year.<\/strong>

\u201cWe need a name that will bring us\u00a0good luck \u2013 said the women while\u00a0choosing the name for \u201ctheir\u201d industrial\u00a0laundry after having faced\u00a0a thousand troubles. One of the
\nwomen came up with the name\u00a0\u201csunflower\u201d (girasole) because its\u00a0corolla follows the path of the Sun\u00a0in the sky, which implies peacefulness\u00a0even before prosperity.
\n\"\"The choice turned out to be more\u00a0than lucky as a year and a half later,\u00a0we are here to talk about the\u00a0success and the growing turnover\u00a0of the Sunflower Laundry based\u00a0in Porto Garibaldi, Ferrara. It\u00a0was founded \u201cupwind\u201d by fourteen\u00a0blue-collar workers. Ready to be\u00a0come managers, only to keep their\u00a0place of work in that same territory\u00a0without subordinating to the tough\u00a0labour mobility regulations, they\u00a0founded the laundry.
\n\"\"The reconstruction of this collective\u00a0miracle starts in 2013 when the\u00a0Health Services laundry (Servizi\u00a0Ospedalieri) in Ferrara, one of the\u00a0biggest Italian laundry businesses
\nwith their four factories and nineteen\u00a0subcontracting partners all\u00a0over the country, decided to close\u00a0their headquarters based in Porto\u00a0Garibaldi. The idea was to transfer
\n115 employees to Ferrara, a town\u00a0based 60 km away. However, as it\u00a0often happens, the idea met with\u00a0delresistance\u00a0especially by those who\u00a0would preferably keep their place of
\nwork near their homes.
\n\"\"While negotiations were taking place\u00a0and the questions on the future\u00a0of their jobs were being asked, the\u00a0employees in charge of maintenance\u00a0were slowly dismantling and removing\u00a0the huge laundry machines.
\n\u201cThat was the first time when we\u00a0started talking about some possible\u00a0solutions we thought we could use\u00a0\u2013 says Piersante Luciani, a former\u00a0blue-collar worker back then and\u00a0the current Vice President of Girasole\u00a0Laundry. \u2013 At some point, someone
\nsaid we could combine our\u00a0two points of strength and make it\u00a0 to start with and the only possibility\u00a0the fourteen workers had was their\u00a0severance pay that they received\u00a0after having quit their jobs at Servizi\u00a0Ospedalieri. They put the money\u00a0together. Fortunately, also Legacoop\u00a0offered their support through a\u00a0cooperative fund, Coopfond. The
\ntotal sum gathered reached 500\u00a0thousand euros. The Girasole industrial\u00a0laundry opened in March\u00a02016. Matteo Tomasi became the\u00a0President while Piersante Luciani\u00a0was chosen for the role of the Vice\u00a0President. The laundry started washing\u00a0tones of linen for Lidigroup\u00a0right away.
\n\"\"A year and a half later, we are dealing\u00a0with reassuring figures. The\u00a0number of employees has increased\u00a0from 14 to 25, and the 2017\u00a0turnover is going to hit 800 thousand
\neuros again if not more. \u201cIn\u00a0the meantime, we are studying\u00a0how to become better managers –\u00a0Piersanti reveals \u2013 and in order to\u00a0increase work orders in summertime,
\nwe started to work for beach\u00a0resorts and hotels in the sea-side\u00a0areas near Ferrara (lidi ferraresi)\u201d.
\nThe fortunate Sunflower of the\u00a0blue-collar workers keeps blooming\u00a0and growing following the happy\u00a0experience of \u201cWorkers Buyout\u201d, a\u00a0formula that allows workers to buy\u00a0the company they work for. Wellrooted\u00a0in the United States, the formula
