HOW IS THE LAUNDRY MARKET CHANGING\/2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Entrepreneurs and operators fully agree\u00a0on the definition of the sector. They see it\u00a0as more and more dynamic and complex\u00a0where suppliers, laundry owners and final\u00a0users establish contacts through the use\u00a0of social networks, new requests coming\u00a0from family units and a greater attention\u00a0to ecology (necessary to win tenders\u00a0<\/strong>today). What results from it are shops similar\u00a0to service centers where different, not\u00a0 homogeneous clients show up, and where\u00a0every client expresses various and rather\u00a0personal requests. In order to meet them,\u00a0it is necessary to not only raise the levels of\u00a0automation and garments tracking systems\u00a0but improve the ability to listen as well<\/strong><\/p>\n

Laundries designed as coffee bars. Laundries travelling\u00a0on a truck, laundries rented by fashion industry to\u00a0refresh their \u201cd\u2019antan\u201d garments, laundries as a social
\nservice for the less fortunate ones.
\n\"\"These are just some of the examples taken from this\u00a0and previous Detergo magazine issues. They are useful\u00a0here to highlight our current times characterized by
\ngreat changes in the textile care sector. Changes including\u00a0new types of clients, new business models and\u00a0new types of relations with clients. Let us not forget
\nabout the legislative context that imposes stricter and\u00a0stricter rules as far as environmental protection goes.
\nStenilio Morazzini, the CEO of Montega based in\u00a0<\/strong>Misano Adriatico<\/strong> that produces chemical products\u00a0for laundries, says \u201cSince 2017 \u2013 Morazzini\u00a0 observes \u2013 more and more tendering procedures have\u00a0required the participating laundries to present certificates\u00a0on the reduced CO2 emissions. Such tendency will
\nsoon become law\u201d.
\nIt is obvious that all this will directly influence the everyday\u00a0market where, as Corinna Mapelli, co-owner\u00a0of Trevil based in Milan area, the producer of ironing\u00a0equipment<\/strong>, says \u201cfor some time now we have\u00a0been standing on a crossroads, between two roads\u00a0that are destined to get further away one from another.
\nWhere, on the one hand, one looks at the price more\u00a0than at anything else. These clients, chose shopping\u00a0malls or low cost self-service laundries. From the other\u00a0hand, the quality of services counts, so such orientated\u00a0clients would go look for laundries able to treat their\u00a0high quality, precious garments, curtains or carpets offering\u00a0excellent quality treatments\u201d. \u201cHowever, we have\u00a0to remember \u2013 Mapelli adds \u2013 that clients are the first\u00a0to know this crossroads well. Many of them take their\u00a0shirts to the most convenient and a nearby laundry.
\n\"\"They choose a better quality laundry once a month and\u00a0take there their cocktail dress, a leather jacket or nabuck\u00a0shoes. Some entrepreneurs of the sector have understood\u00a0this scheme, so they offer two different types of\u00a0services with different price lists. Whatever the offered\u00a0service, the cross-cutting requests we receive concern\u00a0more and more \u201cintelligent\u201d machines, able to optimize\u00a0the time operators spend on decisions making. Therefore,\u00a0suppliers have been busy creating more and more\u00a0\u00a0automated and well performing machines in order to\u00a0guarantee better efficiency without compromising the\u00a0quality\u201d.
\nOne of the consequences of the changes in the system\u00a0has been stronger permeability of its parts. The\u00a0problems exposed by Mrs. Maria at the laundry she\u00a0goes to, often are unpublished due to the materials\u00a0chosen by clothes industry. They are communicated\u00a0on the phone to machines and solvents suppliers by\u00a0laundry managers who call them to forward new requests\u00a0coming from clients right after Mrs. Maria left\u00a0the shop. \u201cIt is a virtous circle that underlines the role\u00a0of final users\u201d starts Marco Niccolini, the Sales Director\u00a0at Renzacci, a producer of laundry machines\u00a0based in Citt\u00e0 di Castello<\/strong>. He continues: \u201cIt is\u00a0not a random case that the Academy Days organised\u00a0by Renzacci as workshops for laundry operators are\u00a0always full. During the events, we meet businessmen\u00a0and artisans who are mostly interested in doing their\u00a0best at work. Such an increased professional sensibility\u00a0is extremely positive for the market. The market trends\u00a0are quite consolidated today, e.g. the use of natural\u00a0solvents able to treat about 80% of usual garments,\u00a0which undoubtedly is a great advantage to our more\u00a0and more vulnerable and precious environment\u201d.
\n\"\"Entering current affairs of the laundry market, some\u00a0other interesting discoveries concern the final users\u00a0again, who turn out to be the main topic of this reportage. \u201cThey are thousands of them, millions even,\u00a0but everyone is different from one another\u201d explains\u00a0Mirco Mongillo, the Sales Director at Firbimatic,\u00a0<\/strong>a producer of laundry machines based in Bologna\u00a0<\/strong>area. He says: \u201cToday, there are no homogenous\u00a0clients at a laundry anymore. They used to come in
\nwith their bag of weekly shirts and pants to wash and\u00a0iron. Today, a client comes and asks to have their table\u00a0cloth and kitchen cloths washed. Somebody else asks\u00a0to have a sheepskin coat washed and tailored as it has\u00a0lost a couple of buttons, too. Shops start becoming\u00a0more and more similar to service centers that are fully\u00a0available to clients after the crisis. Yet, they are running\u00a0away from the idea of the disposable and aim at durability\u00a0and resistance of garments\u201d.
\n\u201cWho works at a laundry today, should always have their\u00a0computers set on Facebook\u201d adds Alessandro Davi,\u00a0the Managing Director at Davis based in Bolzano,\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>a distributor of German washing machines,\u00a0B\u00f6we in Italy<\/strong>. He explains: \u201cThe aim should be twofold:\u00a0promoting the company in a context that tends\u00a0to award those who make part of social networks and,\u00a0at the same time, monitoring the market and checking\u00a0users\u2019 needs and knowledge. It is a well established fact\u00a0that alternative chemical products are widespread and\u00a0used. Among them, some constitute a milestone in the\u00a0production, e.g. hydrocarbon solvents with their undeniable\u00a0degreasing power that has sharply increased\u00a0even further recently. This truth does not only concern\u00a0the experts of the field but final users as well\u201d.
\n\"\"Market looking like a constantly open interface system.\u00a0Such a concept has been underlined by Pony\u2019s recent\u00a0press release and the President Paolo Fumagalli,\u00a0<\/strong>a producer of ironing equipment in Milan\u00a0area. \u201cPony\u2019s strategy has always included a direct\u00a0contact with clients \u2013 it reads \u2013 in order to collect suggestions\u00a0and expectations, and to make our exhibitive\u00a0room available for demonstrations. During our \u201cOpen\u00a0Days\u201d the participants undergo training and have the\u00a0possibility to test the products while we guide them on\u00a0the practical use of the machines. Surely, a modern\u00a0laundry of today, aims at reducing the noise, managing\u00a0hot air and steam dispersion, reducing the energy consumption\u00a0and improving the ergonomics for a better\u00a0comfort of operators\u201d.
\nConsequently, “Laundries of the future are ecologic,\u00a0sustainable, mobile and automated\u201d, as we read in\u00a0the press release by Rotondi Group, a producer of\u00a0<\/strong>ironing machines and washing machines in Settimo\u00a0Milanese.<\/strong> It further reads: \u201cThe scenario consists\u00a0of offering high quality garments treatment without the use of specialized staff anymore. What also\u00a0seems significant is the use of APPs that have been\u00a0very successful at laundries. It is possible to receive a\u00a0very good laundry service through a simple smartphone,\u00a0e.g. booking a machine at a coin op or managing\u00a0orders at a highly digitalized dry-cleaner\u2019s\u201d.
\nWe have also discussed how automation is applied to\u00a0more and more laundry sectors with Julien Buros,\u00a0Product Manager at Datamars, a Swiss producer\u00a0of tracing systems for garments<\/strong>. \u201cThe big news of\u00a0\u00a0the last years consists of chips application to linen and\u00a0not only to workwear \u2013 Buros explains. \u2013 It is due to\u00a0more and more powerful transponders able to read\u00a0thousands of chips of garments within few seconds.
\nHowever, the traceability starts to be an added value\u00a0also in case of private garments washing and not only\u00a0those from nursery homes. There has been an increase
\nin the number of artisan dry-cleaning laundries that\u00a0have developed the modern approach by providing\u00a0themselves with identification systems which allows to
\nincrease efficient relations with clients\u201d.
\n\"\"A precious point of view on laundry businesses comes\u00a0from A13, a producer of accessories based in Milan.\u00a0 The President, Giuseppe Conti says: \u201cArtisan laundries\u00a0<\/strong>that used PERC machines for years have now been\u00a0orientated towards better performing machines that pollute\u00a0less<\/strong>. Undoubtedly, this is the result of the necessity\u00a0to increase energy saving combined with the more widespread\u00a0awareness of environmental issues\u201d. Conti further\u00a0explains: \u201cNew washing methodologies have definitely\u00a0changed ironing, too. Today, it is necessary to be provided\u00a0 with ironing machines able to bring garments back\u00a0to their original shape. That is why, we witness a dramatic\u00a0increase in the use of tensioning ironing machines\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cYet, the market sees how the customs and habits of clients\u00a0are changing \u2013 Conti concludes. \u2013 What used to be washed\u00a0and\u00a0 ironed at home, is now taken to a laundry. Shirts\u00a0are the best example of it. An upgraded modern laundry\u00a0definitely needs to be equipped with a shirt-finisher\u201d. \u2022<\/p>\n
