In\u00a0order to become familiar with the new work context\u00a0and get a better understanding of the textile care\u00a0market, I curiously started to look through the rich\u00a0archive of Detergo magazine. Detergo was founded in\u00a01952. The year of the foundation was framed, until a\u00a0few months ago, by letter D of the brand name on the\u00a0Cover page (now, it is written right under the heading of the magazine), placed like a flag and pride of the\u00a0glorious history.<\/p>\n
1952, what an extraordinary year. Elisabeth II, the Princess of York ascends the throne\u00a0and initiates, after the Victorian age in the UK, another\u00a0historical period destined to last more than any other 1952 is also the year in which The European Coal and\u00a0Steel Community (ECSC), established by the Treaty of\u00a0Paris, becomes valid. It traces the beginning of a more\u00a0organic and consolidated European Community that\u00a0today, needless to say, appears to be in painful difficulties\u00a0as far as reforms go. Browsing through the filed issues\u00a0of the magazine, I look back at the history marked\u00a0by numerous stages of the evolution heading towards progress, which stands out on every page. Washing and\u00a0ironing machines catch my attention while they highlight the epic times of a \u201csector\u201d by giving a push and\u00a0uniquely contributing to the development of the made\u00a0in Italy industry, and to what was later emphatically\u00a0defined as an \u201ceconomic miracle\u201d. The yellow pages\u00a0of the old volumes are now reporting on chlorinated\u00a0hydrocarbons used in dry-cleaning: Trichloroethylene and\u00a0the \u201ccarbon tet\u201d (Carbon tetrachloride) that, over years,\u00a0left room to a more \u201cductile\u201d type of cleaning: PERC\u00a0 (perchloroethylene) which is still widely used today, and only in part, has it been replaced by natural solvents. 1950s, the fruitful years when the urge to grow coincided\u00a0with the post war reconstruction and with the thrust\u00a0given by the Marshall plan. The basis for a spectacular\u00a0economic growth had been set. It reached a peak\u00a0in the 1960s and transformed the Belpaese from an\u00a0underdeveloped country, with its economy based mainly\u00a0on agriculture, into a world leading economy. Salary\u00a0growth rates broke a record varying from 6% to 7% in\u00a0those years. The figures were actually commented on\u00a0and praised by Mr. John F. Kennedy, the President of\u00a0the USA, during an official dinner party with the Italian\u00a0President, Mr. Antonio Segni. The significant economic\u00a0expansion of those years was undoubtedly determined by,\u00a0first of all, the exploitation of the opportunities deriving\u00a0from the favorable international trends and the initiative,\u00a0resourcefulness and skills of the forward-looking Italian\u00a0entrepreneurs. Those outstanding growth rates dropped if\u00a0not disappeared completely in the dim and distant past in\u00a0Europe and, in particular, Italy.
\nLet us however, concentrate on present times and\u00a0the publication. It is the history of the magazine (the\u00a0background of which we have shortly reviewed), the\u00a0motivation and passion for this work that encourage\u00a0us to imagine an editorial product that, apart from\u00a0capitalizing the value of the good job done here, would\u00a0push us to think it over, improve it and align it to the evolution of times.
\nAn important role is to be assigned to the digital channel\u00a0and its development both in terms of the content and\u00a0information accessibility of the magazine as it represents\u00a0a clear and unique value, also from the point of view of\u00a0economics, for all the textile care sector operators.
\nA specialized, technical magazine like ours will definitely\u00a0keep close contacts, share and exchange ideas with\u00a0the associates, readers and subscribers, and all those\u00a0representing the market of reference by trying to meet\u00a0and interpret their needs, and by telling them all about\u00a0the excellence and professionality that make part of\u00a0this dynamic and variegated market sector. We will\u00a0try to create a publication that \u201csupports the sector\u00a0operators\u201d and that is able to face the reality expressing\u00a0an unrestricted and disenchanted outlook, free from any\u00a0ideological prejudice.
