Damaging your client\u2019s garment in treatment is undoubte\u00a0dly one of the most unpleasant situations that can happen at work. The aim of this article is to develop a critical\u00a0sense through the presentation of two case studies where garments were damaged not really due to a wrong\u00a0washing cycle but because of the poor quality of the\u00a0garments themselves.<\/strong><\/p>\n

First case: a BLOUSE<\/strong><\/span>
\n Pre-existent FRAYING that got worse after the treatment<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A dry-cleaning laundry turned to the laboratory of analysis\u00a0with a blouse that presented a fraying defect in the area of\u00a0underarms and on the back. The client claimed that they\u00a0noticed the defects after the maintenance operations had\u00a0been carried out at the dry-cleaner\u2019s.<\/p>\n

The observations under the stereoscope demonstrated an\u00a0existing loosening of yarns process, the sliding of warp yarn\u00a0over the weft yarn.<\/p>\n

\"\"The defect, as for how it looked and given the area where it\u00a0was specifically present, has been connected to a mechanical stress the fabric might have been subjected to while\u00a0in use. Therefore, the defect, the subject of the complaint,\u00a0cannot have been caused by a wrong cleaning process\u00a0carried out by the dry-cleaner.<\/p>\n

Clearly, when the garment was brought to the dry-cleaner\u2019s,\u00a0the defect had already been there. The cleaning treatment\u00a0only made the situation worse. In order to avoid such un\u00a0pleasant issues, it is advisable to thoroughly check the garments at all times before the cleaning treatment, and signal
\nany possible problems to the clients beforehand.<\/p>\n

Second Case: TROUSERS <\/strong><\/span>
\nstains that originated during a washing cycle<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Let us present another complaint concerning a laundry that\u00a0treated a pair of trousers. A defect appeared on the pair\u00a0after it was washed. The pair presented visible stains due\u00a0to the discoloration of the base dye. After withdrawing the\u00a0garment, the owner of the trousers then turned to the lab\u00a0to analyse the case.
\nThe lab observed a very low color solidity of the trousers.\u00a0The stains that had been formed during the treatment might\u00a0have been caused by a direct contact of the detergent with\u00a0the garment that was still dry. It has actually been demon\u00a0strated that a direct contact of detergents can visibly remove the color from the fabric substrate. The most common\u00a0situations when such contact can take place are:
\n1. Detergent placed directly on a stain before washing;
\n2. detergent placed directly in the drum;
\n3. standard washing with a detergent.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

In the second and third case, the direct contact of the detergent with a fabric depends on the washing machine. It\u00a0could happen that during the first rotations of the machine,\u00a0the detergent has not been diluted yet, therefore it will deposit on a garment that is still dry. More delicate textiles\u00a0responding to such phenomena are those made of cotton\u00a0and treated with particular dyeing techniques.
\nThe examined pair of trousers was destined to even\u00a0tually present such a defect not really due to the wa
\nshing process it was subjected to but due to issues\u00a0linked to the stability of the colorant. \u2022<\/p>\n
