Efficiency and effectiveness constitute two very important concepts within the work field and, in general, in the planning and control of any activity. To make a practical example: you can reach Florence leaving Milan by car, bus or train. All the three vehicles are effective because we are definitely going to reach the destination; however, each vehicle presents different efficiencies.
\n\"\"The ability to generate profits with complex business models like industrial laundries is strictly connected to its efficiency per time unit, i.e. the ability to carry out operations as fast as possible using the fewest resources possible in terms of either physical efforts or energy. Industrial laundries are an interacting nexus of technology, man\/machine interaction and business visions.
\nOtherwise the company risks suffocating under the depreciation of assets , a common characteristic of manufacturing businesses, and high labor costs, typical of businesses providing services.

The same concept can be applied to flatwork finishing where the downtime affects the operative results in a particularly negative way: let us consider the many times operators wait for the available machine clamps while holding the linen articles in their hands. The waiting time, already a performance waste as such, is made worse by the weight of the linen articles that will negatively affect the operator\u2019s physical wellbeing.
