<\/a><\/p>\nThe scenario and the critical issues of a sector that matters<\/strong> The numbers are speaking for themselves: in one year it sanitises the linen of 2 million hotel beds, it manages the table clothing of 184 thousand restaurants and, in the healthcare sector, it is sanitising more than 211,000 beds and it is dressing more than 600,000 health workers.<\/p>\n A key sector, therefore, that is experiencing a complex phase and is looking for solutions that can make the business sustainable, both economically and environmentally. “The two-year of pandemic and the related restrictions have had a major impact on every sector that the industrial laundry is dealing with.<\/p>\n Although for different reasons, there have been same severe repercussions,\u201d began Paoletti. \u201cIf the industrial laundries working for the tourism and hospitality sector lost EUR 396 million in 2020, and in 2021 it is estimated another loss of EUR 350 million, due to the closures imposed by the governmental decree, also the healthcare sector, despite to what we might think, passed through a complex phase. Due to the reconversion of the hospitals wards and the pandemic-related emergencies, in fact, the mix of the required linen has changed: with the same volumes, the requests for the sanitisation of the operating theatres – which have remained stationary – and for the flat linen have dropped significantly, while those for the uniforms have increased.<\/p>\n However, the cost of producing and caring the uniforms is much higher than that of the linen processing, so several companies committed to contracts linked to the day of hospitalisation or to the number of operators have found themselves in the situation of working in loss or anyway with reduced margins\u201d.<\/p>\n “Today, when everything seemed finally restarting, even the hospitality sector, thanks to the return to the cities of art, might soon return to the volumes of 2019, if not higher, it showed up another problem: the raw material costs increase (already existing in the second half of 2021) and the energy costs linked to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. As an association we have already made several appeals, but if for those who work with private individuals the re-negotiation of the prices is feasible thanks to the support of the documentation report, the situation is different for those that have clients from the public sector.<\/p>\n Those who have won some tenders are finding themselves in the position of not being able to ask for an adjustment: often there is not even an Istat adjustment\u201d. “We are making a big pushing action on all levels: Government, Ministers, Prefects. Certainly, we have received attention from several individual figures, but we need a strong and systemic measure.<\/p>\n The government has approved a decree-law to provide financing for public works, but unfortunately there doesn’t seems to be the same will when it comes to services. Yet, we are providing an essential public service, a condition that, furthermore, prevents us from taking extreme solutions: suspending our activity means facing criminal consequences, since the continuity of the hospitals activities depends on us as well’.<\/p>\n EXPOdetergo International 2022: the opportunity to build a system<\/strong> First because our technical suppliers – the machines manufacturers – are the only way to find a concrete solution to the need of reducing the costs. In fact, the new technologies that we will be able to see at the trade fair, reducing the consumption of water, energy and detergents, may be the key of facing the current situation and returning to higher margins.<\/p>\n “But there is another reason why this appointment will be also important: it will allow us to discuss the topic of sustainability, that our sector is also being called to adapt quickly. As emerged during the recent ETSA – European Textile Service Association’s assembly (held in Rome), today even the laundries, in order not to be left behind, must revise their activities from a sustainable perspective, and I am sure that the trade fair will be a unique opportunity to share innovative strategies.<\/p>\n We must move in a supply chain logic: the individual laundry that decides to invest for being green solves nothing. The whole chain must be green, from the technology manufacturer to the fabric manufacturer, from the detergent manufacturer to us the laundries – the end users. And I am sure that EXPOdetergo International 2022 will be an opportunity to make a global systemic assessment, which will allow us to make shared and synergic choices\u201d.
