<\/a><\/p>\nWe meet Alessandro Rolli, the Managing Director of Kannegiesser Italia<\/strong><\/span>, the Italian branch of the German group, a producer of professional laundry machines. Speaking about washing techniques, what improvements have been made to the machines? “An important technological step, comparing to just a few years ago, has been achieved with PowerTrans Vario, a machine built with the use of robots, therefore, welding and the drum construction represent a very high precision of work. It is a final, highly technological product achieved thanks to the mechanical engineering industry available today. The machines have been equipped with an internal \u201cCare wash\u201d system with double chambers that allow for a gentle treatment of linen, the latter being the most valuable asset.<\/p>\n Then, the whole control part has become more and more accurate, such as water circulation and its levels. All the processing is now carried out in a static bath during the washing and rinsing stages and no longer in counterflow. We have improved the insulation of the machine, a heat containment system even in the upright part of the chambers. The goal is to keep as much energy as possible inside the machine while keeping the emission rate extremely low in the washing bath. The internal design of the chambers allows to perform the required mechanical movement to deeply penetrate into the fabric\u2019s fibre. Consequently, there is a simultaneous action of several factors that contribute to achieving an excellent quality of washing result at a lower cost.<\/p>\n Why did we call the machine Vario? “Because it comes from the capability to process a variety of different batches of fabric (coloured garments, linen with a particular technical conformation, etc.). The machine has been made to operate in an Italian market, a very diversified one, where cotton prevails. You will hardly find the same linen type in hotels as there is a strong tendency towards customisation and branding these days. Our machines have been designed to process these different batches, different colours, also in sequences\u201d.<\/p>\n “As manufacturers, we are taking care of the machines and the technical part of the washing systems. Our machines are designed to optimise the use of the detergents offered by the chemicals producers,” explains Gabriele Cuppini, the Sales Director of Union SpA<\/strong><\/span>, a company specialised in producing dry-cleaning machines. At this stage we are trying to propose an innovative system, the result of many years of experience, which has recently become extremely useful and functional as consequence of the skyrocketing energy costs. We are focusing on cost optimization, because keeping the costs down is the best way to increase the income.<\/p>\n As the result of treasuring so many years of experience, we have developed a dry-cleaning machine equipped with a distiller that allows to clean any type of garment and that is capable to remove any type of dirt. We have now focused on developing a system for lowering the consumption: the \u201cEco Concept\u201d system. Reducing the energy loss to keep as much energy as possible inside the machine. But also, using less solvent thanks to the \u201ccloud\u201d washing system, keeping a constant mechanical action, while profitably using the entire drum volume. The solvent carrying 90% of the dirt is being released through the spinning phase, and then distilled using less energy.<\/p>\n It is passing then to the rinsing stage, enhancing the washing cycle. Finally, for the drying phase there is no longer needed the energy dissipated by the distiller, so the machine’s power consumption is reduced to more than half, optimising the distillation and drying cycle. As I said, for designing our machines, we have applied our experience acquired in the past, especially the experience gained on cooling systems for the air conditioning installations, which has helped us today in developing a system to reduce the consumption for the cooling water. For example, consider that for 8\/10 washing cycles we have never exceeded the consumption of about 1 cubic metre of water, and either an energy consumption of about 8kW\/h. The result achieved is very satisfactory as it is combined with a high cleaning quality.<\/p>\n We have developed a concept, a new method, named \u201cEco Concept\u201d. With this system, certain parameters and volumes of the machines are being modified, and for the moment it has been applied only to the electrically heated versions. This method is compatible with almost all cleaning solvents such as Sensene, Intense, hydrocarbons, etc. We are currently defining some collaborations with the detergents manufacturers with the aim of better combining the machine\/detergent synergy. Energy saving, but also eco-sustainability as our machines have no external discharge and therefore, they don’t release any micro-plastics or other hazardous substances in the atmosphere. All cleaning residues are sent to the recycling systems.<\/p>\n “We are starting from analysing the company and the evolution of the market. We produce machines using washing techniques that are able to offer the best response to the high requirements of the laundries” says Marco Niccolini, General Sales and Mkt Director of Renzacci S.p.A.<\/strong><\/span> “We are now manufacturing drycleaning and water-washing machines. As far as dry-cleaning is concerned, we have focused on the following technologies. First of all, it is necessary to re-invent the washing service, which must meet the cleanliness requirements, but also the health and wellbeing of the person. The consumer\u2019s common feeling is leaning towards sustainability, biocompatibility and hypo-allergenicity.<\/p>\n Our answer is the EXCELLENCE dry-cleaning machines series, that are using the bio dry-cleaning as washing technique. These machines allow a significant reduction in energy and water consumption. In addition, the SENTINEL technology equipped on our machines, allows an effective bactericidal and virucidal action inside the drum, during the cleaning cycle. Speaking about our washing machines, with the Oceano series, we have again responded to the mission mark of the sustainable economy and the need to reduce consumption. Our water-washing systems are perfectly matching with the dry-cleaning, completing each other.<\/p>\n Two combined washing techniques, offering a complete service. Furthermore, the new Eco Care series, allow energy savings from 12% to 16% compared to the washing cycle set by the customer. Eco Care has a new water recovery system, reducing waste and pollution. Finally, at EXPOdetergo International 2022 we have presented the plastic guard system equipped on our machines, efficiently fighting against the release of microplastics into the environment. Consider that the latest scientific data shows us that the consumer introduces a quantity of microplastics equivalent of two credit cards, in the body per year…”<\/p>\n We meet Ruggero Sammarco, the Technical and Business Development Supervisor of Christeyns Italy<\/strong><\/span>, who highlights the evolution of the chemical products, detergents and washing methods seen from the perspective of Christeyns: \u201cchemistry is one of the main aspects on which the laundry service bases its quality on. The market perspectives of chemicals in the laundry are focused on the implementation of always greener components, better integrated in the context of the circular economy. The solutions for reducing the impact on the environment, that are offering an added value to a product’s useful lifetime are countless, and are covering different application fields: – Ecolabel and\/or related ISO 14024 certifications; – reduced energy consumption; – packaging reduction; – reduced water consumption.<\/p>\n Regarding the chemical products development, the centrepiece of the provided service, with less impact on the global disposal system, we cannot miss to mention all the possibilities offered by the lists of components banned by the various ISO 14024 labels. Almost all subjected labels include important raw material limitations, for example as specified in the Nordic Swan detergent requirements. Raw materials that played a major role in the water pollution (whether groundwater, surface or marine). For at least a decade, Christeyns has been offering a wide range of products and systems certified according to labels such as Puresan EU Ecolabel, Nordic Swan labelled products, Green’r EU Ecolabl etc., placing itself at the forefront in this framework. In terms of logistics, the packaging is reduced by: – possibility of delivery in tanks, that reduce the amount of packaging to be disposed; – possibility of reusing the empty packaging.<\/p>\n Are products conceived with more concentrated formulas, reducing the delivery loads, as the washing requires lower dosages. The raw materials used allow to reduce the washing temperatures required in various fields of application; this is how the old 70-80\u00b0C washing temperature applied in various situations, have been changed to 40-60\u00b0C, with a much lower energy consumption. All this without neglecting the last fundamental aspect in the washing technology of nowadays: a reduced water consumption. These products, therefore, combined with the most advanced application knowledge, were the basis for the washing systems for achieving remarkable water savings of up to 4 l\/kg of fresh water in the continuous batch washer or less than 10 l\/kg in the washer extractor\u201d. “Grandimpianti has been betting, since 2020, on the potential of the ozone washing \u2013 a natural gas with a strong sanitising power \u2013 and until today, one of the most effective washing methods against bacteria, mould, viruses and spores, capable to eliminate up to 99,98% of them”.<\/p>\n We talk about this with Gabriele Giotto, the Sales and Product Manager of Grandimpianti<\/strong><\/span>, who adds, “In contact with water, the ozone is oxidising becoming oxygen, and it is acting by disintegrating the organic substances through oxidation. The ozone is inactivating the viruses by acting directly on the lipid membrane that is covering them. Efficient, eco-friendly and circular, the ozone does not require storage, being generated at the moment of use through a small generator that uses the oxygen available in the environment and an electrical discharge. At the end of the process, no special discharge is required either, as it is simple oxygen.<\/p>\n Connecting a Grandimpianti washing machine to its GO3 or G03MAXI ozone generator is an extremely simple, quick and easy operation: all washing machines, in fact, are designed to be connected directly to the tank and, thanks to the compressor\/injector system, the gas is nebulised directly into the washing bath, without any mechanical-structural problems. The ozone washing, not only guarantees excellent cleaning and hygiene results, but also ensures a reduced environmental impact: thanks to its functionality, it is possible to protect the environment while maintaining very high standards of cleanliness. This gas is active at low temperatures (it is decomposing above 35 degrees) and, thanks to its oxidising and detangling action, it reduces the amount of necessary detergent and avoids the use of softeners.
