Our in-depth study of this month is focused on Christeyns, a multinational company producing detergents and chemical products with its Italian headquarters located in Pessano con Bornago near Milan, and specifically we are going to look inside the perimeter of the professional textile washing (also because the company has also other industry sectors in its portfolio, ranging from the Food Industry-Food Retail, to Professional Cleaning, and up to the Medical Care). Striving for a cleaner future – is the motto that stands out on the company’s website, but it is also a goal, a philosophy of work and professionalism.
“Washing with cold water, less sorting, lower operating costs and higher washing capacity: does it sounds like the ultimate laundry dream? Rapid-O is a complete system that consists of an ozone generator and dedicated chemicals, all combined in a washing process. The synergy between the ozone and the products is translated in improved efficiency and a maximum softness sensation for your guests”. This is what Riccardo Bassan, the company’s Product Manager, explains us. “The use of specialised laundry products in combination with ozone is unique on the market. Christeyns specifically developed the Rapid-O products to enhance the benefits of ozone in the washing process. Together with a compact and very efficient ozone generator, the concept allows washing at lower temperatures and with shorter cycles. This increases the washing capacity, extends the textile lifetime, while ensuring an excellent softness and whiteness. Rapid-O is a revelation for the laundry and linen”.

How is this system working and which specific equipment does it have?
“The Rapid-O generator is a compact, wall mounted system that generates ozonated air. Through 2 regulated outlets the ozonated air can be transported to 2 independent washer extractors with a maximum 80kg combined capacity. The system doses a very low quantity of ozone (only 0.2-0.4 ppm) that is continuously injected into the operating washer extractor. There is no batch system or separate tank as is often the case on the market. This low and continuous ozone flow ensures the optimal system safety and a guaranteed quality”.
But besides ozone, is this washing system working also combined with some other products?
“The Rapid-O products are part of a multicomponent system of chemicals that must be used together with the ozone generator to maximise the benefits of ozone in the washing process. The system combines a detergent and an alkaline booster with a bleach based on peracetic acid. In addition, it would be recommended the use of a specialised degreaser for an excellent stain removal on medium to heavily soiled fabrics. A softener can be added in the washing process to confer an extra perfume to your textiles, if required.

Which are the advantages and the distinctive features of this washing system, compared to the traditional one?
“The combination of ozone and Rapid-O products in a dedicated washing process, creates synergies at different levels that cannot be achieved with traditional washing programmes without compromising too much the water, energy and laundry products.
1. One of the main advantages of this system is given by the possibility of washing at low temperatures (20°C-30°C), which saves energy costs and shortens the length of the washing cycle, by reducing the heating time. Shorter washing cycles, means an increased capacity of the washer extractors, thus boosting the productivity of the laundry.
2. The added ozone improves the stain removal and bleaching capacity in the Rapid-O washing processes. The combination of ozone and peracetic acid (Peracid Forte) works wonders: it opens up the textile fibres, releasing and breaking down embedded mineral particles and chemical deposits and boosts the bleaching power for the white linen. In combination with Rapid-O Degrease, even heavily soiled fabrics are freed from the stubborn stains.
3. Cold washing means a more delicate washing cycle for your garments, and consequently a longer textile lifetime. In addition to an excellent whiteness degree, ozone also ensures a maximum softness. In this way, you can offer a better quality to your guests or customers.
4. Last but not least, operations and handlings can be significantly improved.
The Rapid-O concept only requires sorting between white and coloured textile, saving the time of your staff before the washing process. The need of rewashing is reduced to a minimum, due to the excellent stain removal. These two aspects significantly simplify the workflow and save on operating costs.”
Summarizing, if I correctly understood, it’s a washing system that also reduces the consumption?
“All in all, the Rapid-O process by Christeyns ensures a reduction of up to 50% of the washing process time length, up to 90% less energy consumption due to the completely cold wash, and up to 40% less water consumption in the washing process, guaranteeing a perfect washing result”, concludes Riccardo Bassan while bidding farewell… •
